4つのポイントについて:書き出し

まず書き出しですが、日付を頭に持ってきている訳例、発言者の経産相を頭に持ってきている翻訳の2つに分かれます。またいずれとも異なり、発言の内容から書き始めている例もあります。

「ここは正々堂々と発言者を主語にするのが由緒正しい」、「何月何日と時間から示すのが分かりやすい」、「報道の内容から始めるの方がジャーナリスティックでよいのではないか」

確かに上記のように「こうした方が良い」というスタイルが定型としてあれば迷うことはないのですが、実際の翻訳サンプルとしてはどれが一番すぐれているとは言えない部分もあります。いずれの書き出し方も至極まっとうな書き方であり、また名前から書き出す例、職責(タイトル)から書き出す例も英語としては正しいと言えます。

4つのポイントについて:報道陣

「報道陣」という用語についてはどうでしょうか。Reporters を使う例と Press を使う例にわかれています。

「“a group of reporters”では平易すぎるのではないか?専門家らしく聞こえない」「Press のほうが業界筋らしい」

これも実はどちらが絶対正しいとは言えません。どちらの用語も権威あるニュースメディアで使われる「報道陣」に相当する英語だからです。

4つのポイントについて:廃炉

では次に「廃炉」はどうでしょうか? このような専門用語、技術用語は差異があまり見られないのが普通です。
1~4号機 を 1-4 としているものと 1 to (もしくはthrough)4 としている表記に分かれています。

確かにより丁寧なのは to を使うほうですが、かといって、1-4では通用しないかというとそういうこともありません。報道機関によってスタイルが定められていますが、この種のドキュメントではどちらも使用されています。

4つのポイントについて:他地域の原発とは異なる考え方で検討する

最後に、「(福島第一原発の件を)他地域の原発とは別の考え方で検討する方針を示した。」の部分はどうでしょうか?

(経産相が)「示した」に indicated かsaid が使われています。間接話法を用いた例が多数ですが直接話法を混ぜて記述した例もあります。発表されたその政策を説明する説もしくは句の中で、「福島の件」を最初に持ってきた例、「他の地域の原発」を最初に持ってきた例の両方があります。いずれがより適切でしょうか?

どちらとも言えません。いずれの訳例も、経産相の意図を汲むべく翻訳されています。

4つのポイントからわかること

いかがでしょうか?上記の4つのポイントだけに着目しても、翻訳者によって表現はいくつも生じてしまいます。

ここで大切なのは「どの翻訳が正しいのか」ではなく、「原稿(原文の意味)がコンセプトとして正確に伝わっているか、一定の品位を持って提示されているか」、そして「貴社の望む形で翻訳されているか」ということです。

ここに掲載している翻訳は、経験豊富な翻訳者により翻訳されているものばかりです。 にもかかわらず、貴社がご覧になり優れたものとそうでないものがあるとお感じになったとすれば、それはまさに貴社の「好み」であるといえます。

たとえば、正確さや分かりやすさを求めるのであれば、001や002の訳例をピックアップされるかもしれませんし、また原文よりも「新聞らしさ」のような雰囲気をお求めの向きには、003や006がお気に召したかもしれません。

翻訳の好みを見極めたら

このように「翻訳の好み」はどうしても存在してしまいます。
「A新聞は固くて読みにくい。B新聞のほうが平易で分かりやすい」からと言って、「A社がダメで、B社がよい」ということにはなりません。巷にあふれる「質の高い翻訳、高品質」という言葉に踊らされることなく、貴社にとっての「翻訳の好み」をしっかりと把握しなければ、いつまでも満足できないままになってしまいます。
